Research: carol vernnalis

Carol venalis's theory is very important when making a music video. it is ideal to know  the key concepts of her theory.

The four key concept:

- Editing
- Degesis
- Narrative
- Camera Movement and Framing

1) Editing:
- in music videos you can break the 'rule of continuity editing'.
- editing matches the beat of the soundtrack
- jump cuts are allowed, break 180 degree rule.

2) Degesis:
- actions of the character is cut because of the editing.
- you are allowed to move to the music.
- gaps in audience understanding.

This is Beyonces song '7'11' being edited to the beat. This is beyonce dancing the beat of the song.

3) Narrative:

- there isnt an equal balance between the performance and narrative
- the video doesnt neccessarily have to make sense.
- video response to the music
In this part of the song it does not neccessarily make sense or go with the narrative.

4) Camera Movement and Framing:
- When it comes to shot types, extremes close ups  are common

- The master shot and close up shots are used frequently
- The style of framing and movement are usually a continuing theme that is distinctive to that video/genre

the camera is upside down and panning beyonce in this clip.
