There are many functions of a music video one of these being
to sell the song in a way that the audience can remember the song from the
video, this is practically another way of advertising the song. Another
function would be to provide the viewer with a better understanding of the song
so they can engage with it both visually and audibly ( this is achieved through
the ‘story telling’) however it’s not done in every music video and some go
completely of topic to what the artist is talking about. Additionally to
entertain the viewer by highlighting the talents of the artist eg: dancing,
singing, performing and physical performance. These functions all make up a
music video.
A video highlighting many of these functions would be Mark
Ronson & The Business Intl - The
bike song. This video is a typical music video as it consist of close ups,
extreme close ups and many base tracks of the main character involved in the
song.
Mark Ronson & The Business Intl- The bike song
To summarize the narrative of this video. Its a guy looking for a job, finds a bike then the bike gets taken, He then retrieves the bike meets a lady and they go riding there bike in the park
In this video we don't see the artist sing his own song. He's a character in the video but not the person singing to the camera. Usually the artist is the focus of the video but on this occasion an actor is the main character
I feel that this song is a perfect example of a typical music video as it follows the steps of a song, its edited to the beat of the song, and involved many close ups and is heavily edited
