Reflecting back on AS year - Music videos

During the end of the AS year we learned the features of music videos. We learnt about the difference from a music video and a film. I learned that there edited differently as music videos consist of fast editing, effects, base tracks, close ups and so on.

We Also learned why music videos are made. These reasons being; to advertise the particular song their making the video for, to help the audience to understand the song and feel a sense of connection with the artist and to promote the artist my dancing, acting and giving visual pleasure..

Additionally we learnt that music videos differ depending on what genre the song is. For example Lady gaga (POP) and P.Diddy (RAP) music videos will be different. From the lighting, the pace of the edit, the mise en sene, camera shots and so on.

Lady gaga - Applause

P.diddy- I want the love

Finally we learnt that MTV was the first channel to show music videos on television. MTV first started on the 1st Aug 1987. The fist video to be shown on MTV was by The Buggles - Video killed the radio show. However since then music videos has changed, as there more about story telling. Music videos nowadays can be up to 8 minuets long. Michael Jackson displayed his music video Thriller which was 13 minuets long on the 2nd December 1983. It was labeled as the most significant pop video of all time as its was like no other video. This lead to it being shown twice every hour on MTV.
