Reseach: Andrew Goodwin

'Dancing in distraction theory 1993'

Andrew Goodwin

Music videos ignore common narrative as they essentially are advertisements for a song. As a consumer, we amke up our own meaning of a song in our minds: a music video can anchor meaning and gives the record company/artist a method of anchoring meaning

 Example of Amplification

Naughty boy ft sam smith-  la la la

This video represents amplification as it keeps a link with the lyrics/song however it has a deeper level of meaning. It gave the director  the opportunity to be more creative and artisic with the musicvideo

Example of Illustration

Krept & Konan - My story

The video is a great example of Illustration as eveything in the video is based on the source of the song. Every lyric is acted out by the artists.

Example of Disjunction

Lady gaga ft Beyonce - Telephone

This video is intentionally ignoring the context of the song. Therefore this song falls into the disjuncture category.

I intend to use Amplification or Illustration in my music video as I believe its suitable for the coursework. I also think it will be easier to film and plan since we have no budget
