Research: Previous Student Video

11. Yacine, Andrew, Ryan, Mazlum from 283goswell on Vimeo.

As a class we had to look at a variety of videos from previous students and we had to choose our favourite and review it. I chose group number 11 from last year as even though their idea and video were quite simple it was still good. The song they chose to do was 'Passenger - Let Her Go' The genre of this song is indie pop and the main audience is adults or people who have generally experience some sort of heart break.

In this music video there are both ups and down just like any other music video before the final editing. For example, there are some areas where the camera is being held by hand and it does wobble such as 0:07 the camera is moving upwards but wobbles before reaching the top of the narrator's face. They used good base track as there's repeated shots of close ups of his face and mi-shots of him playing the guitar which is done properly. The use of special effects was really good as there's a shot where he's sitting at the cafe but the shot is blurry and then the shot becomes clear.

The shot is blurry.

The shot gets clear and shows the narrator properly.

As mentioned before the playing of the guitar is properly done and looks good as it's in time with the music.
The use of mise en scene is well planned out as the settings of the cafe is really calming just like the speed of the actual music. The narrator has thought about what he was wearing as it suits the genre and the lighting of the place matches with the mood of the song as it's about someone who's just lost their love and is feeling dark.

There's various shots of him and the girl who's left him. All of the camerawork is really good as there are scenes where she's walking in front of him and you can see the girl from his point of view.
