1. Evaluation Question: In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Powered by emaze

2. Evaluation Question: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

3. Evaluation Question: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

4. Evaluation Question: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

MUSIC VIDEO
Through audience feedback i have learnt that they enjoyed the narrative of the video and most of the edits, we have use feedback from the ruff cut and improved it. things the audience said didn't work. I felt like it was important to change these things as the audience are the once that our productions are bases around. audience had said that the video needed colour as it was plain so we incorporated a black and white effect on the past tense clips which once the same audience watched again said it had created of and understanding.

Through reactions in the cinema i know that the video had a sentimental feel to it and was quite gripping to some. " the editing of the girl fading was effective as it was such a shock and was sad" said a member of the audience. however we did get some critism regarding the dress code of the characters. The audience didnt feel as though the costumes of the characters were suitable for the genre. Although we did research and thought we were meeting the codes and conventions the audience found that the costume was very appealing and did not let the artist stand out from the rest. From this i learned that even if you do online research on different artist you should also ask audience members what they feel are the codes and conventions of indie pop.

I have also learned that even if your video is appealing to the audience it is not also what they expect of you that matters. I have learnt that it is important to create exciting and captivating productions as the audience for my production are young and need a lot more engagement. This will encourage my audience to want to see future productions.

ANCILLARY WORK

Showing my audience my ancillary i have got very useful feedback on how i can improve it and what they like. they seemed to like the choice of colours used and also the use of the glow. They believe that some of my record label and copy right label information was squashed i have learnt that this could take affect as people may believe that they are able to copy right and use my production which could mean a loss in money.

Ancillary - analysis of previous work

This is the digipak of a previous student work who did exceptionally well. Each part of the digipak use the same font and pictures of their artist which look very realistic. I like the colour chosen for this digipak as although their isnt much to it, each segment of every digipak stands out.
This student has thought carefully about the codes and conventions of the genre and applied it to his/her digipak. This is shown through the choice of bright colours, her outfit in each of the digipaks and the stylised writing used which is mainly pop related.

Planning - real life ancillary analysis

Alo

The cover of Emeli Sande's album has a colour scheme of black white and grey. Her photo is not of her facing the camera however it is very simplistic and elegant. This is usually what these colours may be associated with. The actual CD is also black using the same font on the album cover. it doesnt have a photo on it either. I like the simplicity of this album cover. Emeli's music (especially the songs on this particular album) are also very clean and neutral. This goes with the genre of her music as she sins soul ful pop which is heart warming and tends to make you zone out (clouds).
Along with the album cover, the tour poster is also black, white and grey. it syngenesis with the album cover as it also used the same font and the cloudy grey theme.

Research- Ancillary products. class discussion

In class, we discussed the importance and functions on digipaks to the music industry. We concluded that they are a way of connecting the artist to their fans. To encourage their fans to purchase the digipak, they often add in a little extra for them such as an extra single or a personal message. This as opposed to their album being illegally downloaded. Usually the true fans would buy the digipak in order to feel closer to the artist.

Filming and Editing: Deadline week Wednesday

We decided to come into lunchtime media workshop to go over the last bits of our music video.
As we had trouble with this shot, we thought about deleting it. but since we added the smooth cam effect and slowed down the shot, it looks much better and useable.
During yesterday's session, we put a space between this shot and the one before; but today we decided against it and put them together and made it look more continues.

Filming and Editing- Deadline week Tuesday

Today, we decided to go to the media workshop to further improve our music video. We continued to solve the issues raised in our feedback.
We focussed mainly on adding effects on the past shots which will give our audience a visual clue.

1st effect attempted, we didn't like it because it was to colourful and did not represent what we wanted.

Eventually, we decided to change the brightness and contrast of the shot and thus making it look slightly different to the other shots.

We also didn't like the jump cut in this shot so we decided to add a short clip in between the two.

Filming and Editing: Rough-cut Feedback

In today's lesson we looked at all the music videos and gave each other feedback on what we liked, what we didn't like and what could be improved and how.

For the feedback we received for our music video and mades some notes in 3 different sections.

1. STRENGTHS
  • The base track in the forest
  • The fade outs that indicate the girl is no longer there
  • The storyline is very strong and it works well
  • Audience reaction was what we expected
  • The locations used worked well together
  • Lip sync was in time
2. WEAKNESSES
  • The guitar playing needs to be in sync with the song. For example, in some shots Hadi begins to play the guitar before/after the guitar playing starts in the audio.
  • In the panning shot of the pond we were told it needed to be smoothed so the shot could be improved
  • Needs transitions and effects
  • In some shots the singing was not in sync by a one base
3.  IMPROVEMENTS BEING MADE
  • Making sure that cuts are being made before the camera moves
  • Leave the ending on the shot of the graveyard where the girl disappears and the boy is left alone
  • Adding the effect of using 'bleach colours' to indicate the past which leads to visual clues for the audience
  • Jump cuts when Hadi is on the hill with the guitar
  • The shot where Hadi is walking inside the graveyard it should be made longer
